What's New..... Lothian R&D Strategy With single system working from April 2005, the NHS Lothian R&D Consortium considered a new forward-looking and inclusive R&D Strategy was essential. Following consultation, the strategy was presented to the Health Board in January and approved. To view the document click here. December 2004 Edition of R&D Matters The new edition of R&D Matters has now been distributed. Radiation and Research If your study involves the use of Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Physics for diagnostic or therpeutic use, the please click here to find guidance on how to complete the COREC form. Small Project Grants Research & Development has again been awarded funds from General Endowments to support research within LUHD. Applications are invited from Division staff with a view to making several awards by the end of this financial year (end March 2005). As was the case last year, priority will be given to non medical staff, novice researchers and to funding pilot studies. The deadline for submissions is - 1.00 pm on Friday, 4 February 2005. Ethics Training The R&D Office has updated their ethics training to include in depth help and information on the ethics procedures and online form (the electronic form using Office Forms Filler is being phased out). Please see our ethics page for more information. Research Methods Course: From Idea to Proposal The Scottish School of Primary Care is hosting the "Research Methods: From Idea to Proposal" Course. An ideal way for novice researchers to gain a comprehensive understanding of basic research methods, literature searching and research proposal writing. Please see the NES Website for more details. Scottish NHS Research Day The Scottish NHS Research Day, organised by NHS Lothian - University Hospitals Division on behalf of the Scottish R&D Directors, will be held on the 14th March 2005. Clinical Trials Toolkit A new MRC/DH joint project website, the Clinical Trials Toolkit, is now on-line to provide help to meet the requirements of the UK Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations 2004. New R&D Matters - Clinical Trials Directive Special The new issue of R&D Matters is a special focus edition on the new regulations for Clinical Trials. If you have any contributions for R&D Matters, comments, focus suggestions for future editions, or would like to be added to the mailing list, please contact the R&D Office. MHRA Clinical Trials Meeting The Clinical Trials meeting is to be held on the 5th April 2005 in at the Apex International Hotel in Edinburgh. Click here to view the agenda. Researchers wishing to attend should complete the registration form and return directly to the MHRA. Costs are being subsidised by CSO and therefore attendance is £75 per delegate. New Leaflet: Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations 2004 New leaflet is now available on the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations (Regulations transposed from the EU Directive for Clinical Trials). Medicines for Children - New initiative to develop medicines for children A new initiative to encourage the development of more medicines designed specifically for use in children has been announced by Health Minister, Lord Warner.
